Why We Love Bootstrap

One of our favorite tools to use when developing sites for clients is Bootstrap. You may be wondering, what exactly is Bootstrap? Bootstrap is a “free and open-source CSS and JavaScript  framework directed at responsive, mobile-first front-end web development.” What does that mean for us? Well, Bootstrap is one of the most useful tools in our production repertoire. It allows us to hasten our development times, and provides customization and modularity for the customer.

One of the most beneficial advantages of Bootstrap is the broad stroke of compatibility that Bootstrap development offers. When using Bootstrap, we take advantage of the grid system it uses that prioritizes mobile devices. This means any site we construct will work across a large array of PC and mobile devices with a varying amount of display sizes. More compatibility means more people are able to use the site, which is important  to a business looking for potential customers.

Another great benefit is the ability for us to seamlessly modify parts of a site for our customers. When built from the ground up, small changes or requests may often take longer to complete and customization of the site is a longer process, as well. However, using the incredible resources that Bootstrap gives us for UX design, we can quickly make changes to sites without large amounts of new code being required. This means clients can make tiny changes and quickly see them implemented providing efficient customization of their site.

Instead of using prebuilt code which can result in a site looking very “copy-and-paste” or immediately recognizable as a free website. We utilize the Bootstrap library which is modular at every level allowing us to customize each website to look unique. Many websites you regularly use are built with Bootstrap and you wouldn’t even know it. It’s customization possibilities are endless. Making “this thing bigger” or “that thing a different color” is much easier to implement using this database of code.

Bootstrap is also open-source. Using open-source software benefits both the client and the developer. The client benefits because they do not have to deal with annoying licensing fees or making additional purchases once they make a deal with us. We benefit because the open-source nature of the framework allows us to deep dive and change anything necessary to fit the client’s needs, without having to build from scratch for each request. This is another factor that facilitates faster turn-around on client requests.

The excellent framework of Bootstrap allows for quick work on our end and a smooth experience for clients and users. With pre-built code for almost anything a site would need, that is also open-source and allows modulation at any level, we can use Bootstrap to build exactly what a client requires faster and more precisely. Development time is not used on foundational code-writing but, instead, customization and client-requested features. Thanks in part to Bootstrap, KDE can deliver excellent sites to our customers that are tailored to their requests, and do so hastily.
